Boyfriend of Missing SNL Writer’s Sister Arrested for Murder After Police Make Disturbing Discovery

· eris

A disappearance that left the family of a *Saturday Night Live* writer searching for answers has taken a turn, after police arrested the missing woman’s boyfriend and another suspect on suspicion of murder, nearly a year after she vanished without a trace from her Los Angeles home.

Christina Lynn Downer, the 38-year-old sister of television writer and comedian Jimmy Fowlie, was reported missing in December 2025 after relatives became increasingly concerned about her whereabouts, but investigators now believe that she was killed and that two people deliberately attempted to conceal what happened to her.

Los Angeles police confirmed that Downer’s boyfriend, 41-year-old actor Delorean Bijon Brandon, and 34-year-old Kaylee Nicole Markowski were taken into custody on October 29, 2026, following an extensive investigation that uncovered evidence authorities believe connects both suspects to her disappearance and suspected murder.

The pair were booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2 million each, although neither suspect has been convicted and both remain legally presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The investigation began on December 18, 2025, when Downer’s former husband requested a welfare check after becoming concerned that he had not heard from her for an unusually long period, prompting officers to investigate her last known whereabouts.

When detectives questioned Brandon, who had been living with Downer in the Koreatown neighbourhood of Los Angeles, he reportedly claimed that she had moved out several months earlier and had left behind all her personal belongings, including her vehicle and beloved dog.

That explanation raised questions because Downer’s family believed she would never voluntarily abandon her dog, Rex, without making arrangements for his care, particularly as she was known to have a strong emotional attachment to the animal.

Her brother, Jimmy Fowlie, subsequently turned to social media in an attempt to locate her, sharing photographs and missing-person appeals while asking anyone who might have seen Christina or knew something about her disappearance to contact authorities.

Fowlie, who has worked on *Saturday Night Live* since 2022 and helped create the programme’s popular Domingo sketches, explained that the family had become increasingly worried after communication with Christina stopped and certain details surrounding her disappearance appeared inconsistent.

According to information he shared at the time, the family last heard directly from Christina in late November, although activity continued appearing on her social media accounts into December, creating uncertainty about whether she was still controlling those accounts herself.

The writer later expressed concerns that someone might have gained access to his sister’s telephone and online profiles, potentially using them to communicate with other people and create the impression that she had voluntarily disappeared.

He also alleged that messages requesting money had been sent from her accounts, something the family believed could have been part of an attempt to mislead relatives and delay the search for her.

Although those allegations initially remained unconfirmed, the investigation took a significant turn when Downer’s mobile phone was discovered washed ashore on Santa Monica Beach, prompting detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division to take over the case.

The discovery raised further questions about what had happened to the missing woman, particularly because her phone had appeared miles away from the Koreatown apartment where she had previously lived.

Investigators continued examining evidence over the following months, eventually focusing on several locations that they believed could provide information about her disappearance, including a property in the Joshua Tree area of California.

Earlier in October, detectives searched an Airbnb property near Joshua Tree with assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and specially trained police dogs, although authorities have not publicly explained what evidence, if any, was recovered during the operation.

The investigation also uncovered a complicated history involving restraining-order requests connected to the individuals at the centre of the case, with court documents showing that Downer had previously sought legal protection against Markowski.

According to NBC Los Angeles, Downer filed a restraining-order request against Markowski in 2024, while Brandon had also filed separate requests involving Markowski during the preceding years.

The requests were ultimately dismissed because the parties did not appear in court, and authorities have not publicly established whether those earlier disputes were connected to Downer’s disappearance.

In April 2026, several months before the arrests, Fowlie shared an emotional message on Instagram announcing that his family believed Christina was no longer alive, explaining that their hopes of finding her safely had shifted towards discovering the truth about what had happened.

At the time, however, the Los Angeles Police Department disputed his description of the investigation, stating that Downer had not been located and that the case had not officially been reclassified as a homicide.

The family continued seeking answers while detectives worked to establish a clearer picture of Christina’s final known movements and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Following the arrests, police announced that investigators believe Brandon and Markowski were responsible for Downer’s killing and had subsequently disposed of her body in an effort to hide their involvement.

Authorities have not publicly revealed where Downer’s remains may be located, how investigators believe she was killed or what motive might have led to the suspected crime.

The lack of information surrounding those crucial details means that significant questions remain unanswered, despite the arrests representing a major development in a case that has troubled Downer’s relatives for almost a year.

Brandon was arrested in the Highland Park neighbourhood of Los Angeles, while Markowski was taken into custody in Tarzana, with both suspects subsequently transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Police have not disclosed whether either suspect has provided information about the alleged crime, and details concerning their legal representation were not immediately available when the arrests were announced.

For Jimmy Fowlie, whose professional career has included writing for one of America’s most recognisable comedy programmes, the investigation has unfolded alongside an intensely personal family tragedy that he has repeatedly brought to public attention through emotional appeals.

His original missing-person posts received support from several current and former *Saturday Night Live* performers, including Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Heidi Gardner and other colleagues who helped circulate Christina’s photograph in the hope that someone might recognise her.

The case has attracted renewed attention following the arrests, particularly because investigators believe the suspects may have attempted to conceal the alleged crime while the family was still searching for answers.

Although police have now identified two suspects and announced murder allegations, prosecutors will still need to establish the evidence supporting those accusations, and the circumstances surrounding Downer’s disappearance remain subject to an ongoing criminal investigation.

For Christina’s loved ones, the arrests represent an important development after months of uncertainty, but the unanswered questions surrounding her final days, the discovery of her phone and the location of her remains mean that the search for a complete account of what happened is far from over.
