Harry Styles Leaves Fans Stunned With Hilarious Halloween Costume

· eris

Harry Styles has delighted fans with an unexpected Halloween surprise after deciding to dress up as someone very familiar for his latest concert, recreating the exact appearance he had when he first auditioned for The X Factor as a nervous 16-year-old teenager more than 16 years ago.

The 32-year-old singer, who has become one of the world’s most successful solo performers since finding fame with One Direction, took audiences on an emotional journey back to the beginning of his career during a special Halloween performance at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday, October 30.

Rather than choosing a frightening costume or dressing as another famous celebrity for the entire evening, Styles decided that one of the most memorable characters he could portray was his younger self, complete with the clothes, hairstyle and audition number that millions of viewers will remember from his first television appearance.

The surprise came during the penultimate concert of his impressive 30-night residency at the legendary New York venue, where thousands of fans gathered for the first of two Halloween-themed performances that have become known as Harryween.

Styles appeared wearing a grey cardigan over a plain white T-shirt, accompanied by a yellow scarf, brown trousers and the familiar audition number attached to his clothing, creating an almost identical recreation of the outfit he wore when he first stepped in front of the judges on the British television talent show in 2010.

The attention to detail immediately attracted attention from fans, many of whom have followed the singer since his earliest days in One Direction and recognised the significance of seeing their favourite performer revisit the moment that helped launch his extraordinary career.

However, the costume was only the beginning of the surprise, because Styles went one step further by performing Stevie Wonder’s classic song Isn’t She Lovely, the same track that helped him advance through his original audition when he was just 16 years old.

The performance created a full-circle moment for the singer, who originally appeared on The X Factor as an ordinary teenager from Holmes Chapel in Cheshire, with ambitions of becoming a professional musician but little idea of the international fame that would eventually follow.

Styles also recreated one of the most memorable details from his original audition by reminding the audience that he worked in a bakery, referring to the part-time job he held before his life changed dramatically through the television competition.

During his appearance on the programme, the young singer had explained his bakery job to the judges, a seemingly insignificant detail that later became a beloved piece of One Direction history among fans who watched his transformation from an unknown teenager into a global superstar.

Although Styles did not win The X Factor as a solo contestant, the competition proved to be the beginning of something much bigger when judges decided to combine him with four other young singers who had also auditioned individually.

Together with Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, Styles became a member of One Direction, a group that would go on to dominate international music charts, sell millions of records and attract an enormous following around the world.

The band achieved major success with songs including What Makes You Beautiful, Story of My Life and Best Song Ever, while their concerts attracted huge crowds and established the five musicians as some of the most recognisable young entertainers of their generation.

Following the group’s decision to take an extended break in 2016, Styles launched a successful solo career that allowed him to develop his own musical identity, experiment with different sounds and establish himself as a performer capable of filling major arenas without his former bandmates.

His decision to revisit the beginning of that journey during Halloween was therefore more than simply a humorous costume choice, as it also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the television appearance that introduced him to millions of people and ultimately changed the direction of his life.

But Styles had another surprise waiting for the audience earlier in the evening, when he appeared on stage dressed as legendary American singer Elvis Presley, wearing an elaborate white sequinned jumpsuit complete with a blue cape and oversized gold sunglasses.

The costume paid tribute to one of the most influential performers in popular music history, while also allowing Styles to embrace the theatrical side of his live performances that fans have come to expect during his Halloween celebrations.

His backing musicians and dancers joined the festivities by dressing as different versions of Styles from throughout his career, creating a collection of costumes inspired by some of his most recognisable outfits and public appearances.

Among the memorable looks recreated during the evening were costumes referencing his appearances at the Grammy Awards, the Met Gala and the Coachella music festival, turning the concert into a playful celebration of the singer’s changing fashion choices over the years.

The Halloween spectacle also attracted some famous faces, including actress Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, who was spotted watching the performance from the audience and recording parts of the show on her phone.

Keough was accompanied by actress Zoë Kravitz, who has been romantically linked to Styles since 2025 and appeared to be enjoying the evening while dressed in a striking red Halloween outfit with devil horns.

The couple have attracted considerable public attention since their relationship became known, with reports suggesting that their romance has become increasingly serious, although they have generally preferred to keep details of their private lives away from the spotlight.

Kravitz, whose parents are musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, was seen dancing and singing along during the performance, while Keough’s presence added an especially fitting connection to Styles’ Elvis-inspired costume.

For longtime fans, the return to his original X Factor appearance was particularly meaningful because it highlighted just how dramatically the singer’s life has changed since he first stood nervously before the television judges more than a decade and a half ago.

The performance also revived memories of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne, who died in Argentina in October 2024 at the age of 31, leaving fans and fellow musicians devastated by the loss.

Styles has continued to acknowledge Payne’s memory, including during his current Madison Square Garden residency, where he recently paid tribute to his former bandmate around the second anniversary of his death.

The singer’s Halloween concerts have become something of a tradition, with previous celebrations featuring elaborate costumes inspired by famous films and musical characters rather than conventional spooky outfits.
